Once a lower case involves a situation where an employee who’s working for a company or entity like governmental entity or something like that would report something that’s wrong, in other words, they see the employer violating the law and something that they’re doing and for example, maybe they’re cheating on their taxes or doing something bad. Or they’ve been asked to do something by the employer that they know is wrong. The classic case in Minnesota is a person who was told to put regular gas in a car that was made for unleaded gas and that’s how it happened. And that person lost their job but was found to have a whistleblower claim. And if a person takes their actions in good faith, they’re protected for their reports and an employer who punishes them will also be punished.
