Inattention, driving over the required time, exceeding the limit, some truckers fall asleep, some drink, and some have drugs in their system. I’m noticing now that more truckers, due to the work needs, are being allowed to drive, and sometimes those drivers are really not qualified yet or mature enough to drive. We’re seeing a lot of substance abuse, including alcohol abuse, in that context while operating a vehicle. But I think, for the most part, it’s just exhaustion—trying to get to a place without losing money, which leads them to drive pretty recklessly.
St. Louis, MO personal injury attorney Herman Jimerson talks about the main causes of truck accidents. He explains that inattention, driving beyond the required hours, and exceeding time limits are common issues—some truckers fall asleep, some drink, and some have drugs in their system. It has been observed that, due to increased work demands, more truckers are being allowed to drive, and sometimes these drivers are not fully qualified or mature enough for the responsibility. There is a noticeable rise in substance abuse, including alcohol, among these drivers while operating their vehicles. However, the primary issue seems to be exhaustion—truckers pushing themselves to reach destinations without losing income, which often leads to reckless driving.
