Theft can range from misdemeanor all the way through a series of degrees of severity of felony. And the primary classification is going to be based on the value of the item that’s stolen, the item or currency or whatever it is. There’s also special classifications of theft, for example, theft of a firearm is a felony. Theft of controlled substances, which the frequent case that comes into us is someone who has stolen prescription medication from another, theft of controlled substances will be a felony. So primarily its value based but there can be special classifications of the stolen property, which can elevate it to a more serious and typically felony level offense.
