Appealing a property tax assessment is a little bit technical, but you can actually begin the process on your own. Property taxes can be appealed for up to two years after the assessment is issued, and that means that you can appeal two years at the same time, which is sometimes very useful because you can combine the cases into a single trial. All it requires is filling out the proper paperwork and filing it with the appropriate filing fee at the county courthouse. And at that point, you’ve perfected your appeal and you will be put in touch with the County Assessor to begin the conversation of determining whether you can negotiate a lower rate on your property taxes.
