Appealing your property tax is a complex task, but it isn’t necessarily very expensive. It starts out very informally, so if you determine that you are paying too much for your property tax, it makes good sense to file the appeal. The appeal is not very expensive, and it can be done on an informal basis. As you work through the property tax appeal process, if you’re not able to negotiate a resolution with the appraiser, eventually you do go to court and you present your case in tax court. That’s very complex and requires an attorney, but the initial appeal can be handled even by a lay person.
