Los Angeles, CA personal injury attorney Dave Ring talks about representing women who were sexually abused in their teen years. He explains that I’ve represented, unfortunately, hundreds and hundreds of adult survivors of sexual abuse in my career. It’s something that’s important to me. It’s something that gets me going every day, and it’s a big part of our firm. Representing adult survivors of abuse is challenging because of the statute of limitations. California makes it difficult for adult survivors to sue for what happened to them as children. The statute of limitations is complex, but we get over it a lot. We overcome it a lot. And one case that we had that sticks out in my mind recently was a very high-profile case against a private, all-girls school. The male teacher there was sexually exploiting these teenager girls, having sex with many of them, and he got one of them pregnant. And he was there for 15 years. They had a lot of complaints about him, but they didn’t do anything about it. They did not believe the complaints or the girls. And so finally one girl came forward and really made it known that he was a perpetrator, and we took on the cases of two of these adult victims. They were 30, but they had been abused by this teacher back when they were 14 or 15, and so we were able to show that the school could’ve prevented this, that even though many years had passed, these girls were significantly harmed, and that – we were able to win that case and overcome the statue of limitations.
