There have been a number of toxic exposure cases that I’ve been involved in and there’s different types. There’s the one-time incident exposure and then there’s the over time exposures. We have asbestos exposure cases that we’ve worked on and settled and continue to work on. I had a case where in Superior, Minnesota, oh gosh, it was about 20 or even 30 years ago. There was as tank car, a railroad tank car that derailed and leaked into Lake Superior. And a big toxic cloud went over Duluth right about the 4th of July and that’s the worst time you can have it, everybody wants to go up there. So everybody’s minimizing it and everything but the guys in the moon suits are out there testing, there was big fish kills. When we represented individuals, who lived in area where the spill had been and they had irritation to their eyes and their lungs.
And we ended up getting settlements for them. And then, even having long term medical monitoring to make sure if they had any long-term effects that they could be protected. And one of the problems is, if people don’t go to a doctor right away to diagnose and show they’ve been exposed, its hard to prove it. And so, you have proof problems when you have these exposure cases but that’s part of what we have to educate not only our employees about but even educate the public about. If the general public had any idea what’s rolling through their neighborhoods, past their schools in these tank cars they’d move.
