so we’re lucky in Colorado that we have
a relatively easy probate process to go
to go through compared to other states I
don’t know the time frames of all the
other states I’m only licensed to
practice in Colorado but I know that
ours takes at least six months that’s a
minimum and I know Most states have
longer requirements so as far as what
you have to go through in terms of
probate in other states it’s probably
going to be a little bit worse than it
would be in Colorado so if you have
properties in other states you
definitely want to see if you can take
care of them and avoid probate in those
States as well you can go through
probates in multiple States if you have
multiple properties in multiple States
so your estate plan usually stretches a
little further than you might think
Northglenn, CO estate planning & probate attorney Kayla Seale talks about the process for probating an estate in another state. She explains that Colorado is fortunate to have a relatively straightforward probate process compared to other states. Although I am only licensed to practice in Colorado and cannot provide specific time frames for other states, I am aware that the probate process here takes a minimum of six months. Most other states have lengthier requirements, so if you own property in other states, the probate process will likely be more complex than in Colorado. It is advisable to explore ways to manage these properties and avoid probate in those states as well. If you have assets in multiple states, you may need to go through probate in each state, making your estate plan more complicated than you might expect.
