Trade secrets are actually any kind of confidential information, any proprietary information. It could be technical details, it could be customer lists, anything that a company regards as its confidential property and treats as confidential and prevents access by others is something that can be protected by a trade secret. The thing to understand about trade secrets is that it only protects against somebody actually misappropriating the trade secret to the extent that somebody actually independently arrives at the technical information or the customer list there’s no basis for redress for that. The only protection that a trade secret will protect against is for example, if you have an employee that has access to the confidential information, leaves the company, and takes the confidential information with that’s something that could be solved by trade secret protection.
