It’s important to become a US citizen because most people who are permanent residents have the intent to live and work in the United States permanently, by not becoming a US citizen they’re giving up certain rights like the right to vote, like rights to certain benefits. And so, under those circumstance if you plan to live in the US permanently it’s really important to try to obtain US citizenship.
