I’ve always done a lot of products liability cases. I’ve done a lot of sexual abuse cases. I’ve done a whole array of different serious injury cases but I would say a lot of my focus has been in those two areas, products liability, and sexual abuse.

What we really pride ourselves on is the ability to take difficult cases that sometimes other lawyers have turned down or referred to us and turn those into successes for our clients. That’s really, I would say the essence of what we do.

What really drives me is two things. One is the ability to help people who are desperately in need of help. And then, just the challenge of putting a case together. You know you start out with a lot of information and you have to somehow turn that into a case, which means developing a theme, developing a story, developing something that you can present to a jury that is compelling. And that, I get a lot of satisfaction out of that process.

In terms of mentors, certainly my father was a mentor. I practiced with him for a number of years. What I learned I think the biggest thing that I learned from him was the importance of really detailed, painstaking preparation of a case. And when you’re preparing to try a case you have to know the case inside and out, every fact, every detail. I practiced many years with Richard Koskoff who was my partner, really similar lesson from him about just leaving no stone unturned in preparing a case. And if there’s anything that can be done to make the case stronger and more compelling you go out and you do it.

Those were certainly important lessons. And at the same time, from both of them I learned how to have some balance and not be completely consumed with work and practicing law 24 hours a day so that was also a very valuable lesson.

When I’m not practicing law, I have four children and so I spend a lot of time with them. I’ve done a lot of coaching their different sports teams over the years and watching them in all their different endeavors. So that takes up, certainly, a lot of my time outside the office.

I’m a runner and I’ve done triathlons and things like that so that’s something I also get a lot of enjoyment out of.
