In any kind of a case you have to be aware of and sensitive to what people are going through, because they’re all going through difficult times. But this is especially true in domestic violence cases, because a lot of times their abuser, the person who would be the defendant in our case, is the father of their children or is somebody that they’re otherwise going to have to be around for a long period of time.

And so one of the things we look at is how do you pursue the case in a claim for somebody in a way that gets them a meaningful recovery. It validates them and helps them understand that somebody else wronged them and how for them, they can move forward with their lives. But also does it in a way that fits within the constraints of what they have to do.

And I guess, you know, an example of that is, you know, we have clients who, they have children with their abuser and they don’t necessarily want their children never to see their dad again. So while we’re pursuing the claim for domestic violence, we also have to do it in a way that maintains an opportunity for there to be ongoing interaction between our client and the ex-husband. Ongoing interaction between the children and the ex-husband.

Torrance, CA personal injury attorney Andrew Pruitt talks about what it’s like to be involved in serious domestic abuse cases. He explains that it is important to be aware of and empathetic to people’s difficult situations in any type of case, but particularly in domestic violence cases. Often, the abuser, who is the defendant in our case, is the victim’s children’s father or someone they will have to continue to interact with. We strive to pursue the case in a way that not only gets them a meaningful recovery, but also validates them and helps them move forward in their lives. This must be done in a way that fits within their constraints.

For instance, some of our clients have children with their abuser and may not want to sever all ties. Therefore, while we pursue the domestic violence claim, we must also ensure that there is a possibility for ongoing interaction between our client and the ex-husband, as well as between the children and the ex-husband.
