Roseville, CA estate planning & probate attorney R. Keenan Davis talks about his service to the community and his scholarly work. They have served on the board of directors of the Sacramento Coral Society for six years. The Sacramento Coral Society, a group comprised of 180 singers, is overseen by two remarkable individuals, both Ph.Ds in music and former professors at Sacramento State. Recognized as a cultural gem in Sacramento, the group has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC, the great concert halls of Europe, and on the Great Wall of China. The Sacramento Coral Society’s presence is considered a significant cultural asset for the city, offering four concerts annually that are highly recommended.
Before transitioning into estate planning, they held the position of president at the American Corporate Council Association during their tenure as a corporate lawyer. Additionally, an unconventional aspect of their community service involves raising eight children in the city of Davis alongside their spouse. Acting as the chief cheerleader at various events, including baseball games, soccer matches, field hockey games, musical recitals, presentations, recitations, and school plays, proved to be both exhausting and immensely rewarding.
Invited to contribute to a program at UC Davis Law School, a collaborative effort between the law school and UC Extension known as “Orientation to USA Law,” they taught in this program for 15 years. This initiative, conceived by Professor Beth Greenwood, aimed to provide foreign lawyers seeking advanced degrees in law with an orientation to the American legal system. Leveraging their extensive experience working with foreign lawyers throughout their career, they engaged with young lawyers from around the world in discussions about diverse legal systems during the summertime lectures. Despite not being a full-time teaching position, this opportunity became a cherished part of their life.
