i approach
00:05
my job my firm my advocacy
00:08
as i would have as a psychiatrist or a
00:10
psychologist
00:12
or any sort of counselor now they call
00:14
us attorneys and counselors and
00:16
i actually take on that role of a
00:18
counselor more often than
00:19
a lot of attorneys i know the approach i
00:22
take is setting up a plan for a client
00:24
making sure they understand how the
00:27
court works
00:28
understanding how probation works how
00:30
parole could work
00:31
uh how visitation works making sure that
00:34
their families understand what’s going
00:36
to happen too
00:37
because a lot of attorneys leave out the
00:40
family when it comes to discussions with
00:42
their clients and i think
00:43
the family needs to be a part of the
00:45
case if permission is granted
00:47
the family should be a part of
00:48
everything they should be here at
00:50
meetings they should be here to
00:51
understand what’s happening
00:53
they’re the support in the courtroom at
00:54
every point in time
00:56
so i think that’s the in my opinion is
00:58
the most important thing to do
01:00
when it comes to the approach
01:06
i truly believe that i could not have a
01:08
job that was that is more rewarding than
01:10
what i do
01:11
i get to help people through their their
01:13
demons through their
01:15
potential addictions to drugs addictions
01:17
to various other things gambling
01:19
and even sex and getting them out on the
01:22
other side
01:23
and showing them that they don’t need to
01:25
continue that behavior but getting them
01:27
a plan
01:28
i get calls from clients a year down the
01:30
road two years down the road i’ve even
01:32
had a few from three or four years ago
01:34
that have called me to say they’re clean
01:36
they haven’t done heroin in
01:38
three years they haven’t drank in three
01:40
years i’ve had people call me to say
01:42
that the counselor i sent them to
01:44
has completely changed their life and
01:47
their family’s life so that they’re more
01:49
understood by their family
01:50
and i think that is by far the most
01:53
rewarding part of the practice is the
01:55
follow-up
01:56
and being able to help later
