i became a lawyer because i thought that
00:06
i could do it better than the people
00:07
that were deposing me i worked in the
00:09
resort industry in las vegas and was
00:11
deposed several times during that
00:14
process i realized that getting to the
00:16
point and being
00:18
concentrated on a topic was important
00:21
and i realized that that’s what i wanted
00:23
to do
00:24
is to go in that industry and be able to
00:27
help people
00:28
by focusing them on a goal
00:32
[Music]
00:36
basically when i first became licensed
00:38
as a lawyer i started to participate in
00:41
different
00:42
committees with the state bar of nevada
00:45
and i served on the southern nevada
00:47
disciplinary panel for over 12 years
00:50
and then after that i became or during
00:53
that process i became an arbitrator
00:56
in the mandatory arbitration program for
00:59
the eighth judicial district court
01:02
and in addition to that i was a fee
01:05
dispute arbitrator for the state bar of
01:07
nevada
01:08
in the last two years i’ve
01:12
been placed on another
01:14
standing committee for the state bar the
01:16
standing committee on ethics
01:18
and what they do is lawyers and other
01:22
citizens can submit questions to the bar
01:25
about different uh topics currently
01:29
we’re working on
01:30
an opinion as to remote practice so
01:34
there’s there’s a lot of
01:36
ethical considerations that have to go
01:38
into how a lawyer will
01:41
either remotely or not remotely practice
01:44
law and it includes the interaction with
01:46
your staff it includes interaction with
01:48
customers it includes contracting with
01:51
your own customers everything else or
01:53
clients it’s interesting but it’s also
01:56
helpful to the industry as a whole
01:59
you you start making an analysis in that
02:02
particular instance we look at other
02:03
opinions from across the country
02:06
from other state bars that do the same
02:08
thing that provide opinions and help
02:11
lawyers
02:12
uh govern themselves and govern how they
02:14
interact and and with with clients and
02:17
with the the public in general in
02:19
addition to all of that i also serve on
02:22
the board for the las vegas defense
02:24
lawyers and i’ve done that for about
02:27
five years now four or five years
02:30
and the las vegas defense lawyers is a
02:32
defense oriented
02:35
sub-bar of
02:38
attorneys here in las vegas that talk
02:40
about
02:41
and try and advocate for
02:43
uh people
02:45
in that industry the plaintiff bar has a
02:47
significant presence in basically
02:50
everything in negotiating and with
02:53
legislating
02:55
on different laws and different rules
02:57
that govern the courts
02:59
so this
03:00
organization the las vegas defense
03:02
lawyers was organized over 10 years ago
03:04
and it was in an effort to
03:07
address that kind of a gap in
03:11
the communications and legislatively
03:13
what was going on in terms of laws so
03:16
that
03:17
there are
03:18
an even
03:20
contribution
03:21
by attorneys not just on the plaintiff
03:24
side but also on the defense side
