my approach to the practice of law
00:07
is three-fold the first is the legal
00:10
aspect
00:11
which is representing and being mindful
00:14
of
00:14
my clients interests and the claims made
00:16
against them
00:17
from a legal context in terms of what
00:20
the facts
00:21
are and how the law applies and
00:23
ultimately and ideally
00:25
why my client is not
00:29
in in trouble or hasn’t done anything
00:31
wrong in defending their interest
00:33
the second aspect is acting as a
00:35
counselor to the client
00:36
the areas of law i practice in is
00:38
usually on the defense side
00:40
so someone has claimed or alleged that
00:44
my client has done something wrong and
00:46
that’s a very stressful process for
00:48
anyone
00:49
involved whether or not those
00:50
allegations are true whether or not they
00:53
have insurance coverage that ultimately
00:55
covers their defenses and fees and so
00:58
it’s being an experienced voice and a
01:00
comforting voice to let them know what
01:01
the process is
01:02
to let them know what to expect and to
01:06
ensure them that no matter the outcome
01:08
of course we’re
01:09
always aiming for a positive outcome but
01:10
no matter the outcome that we’re going
01:12
to put them in the best
01:14
uh best situation to succeed
01:17
the final aspect is the business aspect
01:20
for better or worse
01:21
almost anything that’s done
01:23
professionally these days business is a
01:26
consideration
01:27
which means financial aspects and
01:30
efficiency
01:30
are at the utmost you cannot sacrifice
01:35
your time and energies and efforts in
01:37
being a counselor and being an advocate
01:38
but you also have to be mindful that
01:41
particularly in a stressful legal
01:42
situation
01:43
people are looking for a good outcome
01:46
people are looking to be made
01:47
to feel heard and that their issues are
01:51
being addressed
01:52
but also that they’re being done in an
01:53
efficient and a capable manner without
01:56
creating secondary or tertiary problems
01:58
for themselves
02:04
the most rewarding aspect of my practice
02:06
sort of falls into
02:07
two different categories the first is
02:10
simply helping people the legal arena
02:14
in a lot of ways is
02:17
something that people come to when they
02:19
need something and because i do
02:20
litigation
02:22
primarily oftentimes it’s when someone
02:24
comes
02:25
to me when they might be in trouble uh
02:28
it’s not necessarily because they did
02:29
something wrong
02:30
but it’s because something unfortunate
02:33
has happened to someone else
02:35
and that person is looking to one or
02:36
multiple people to be made whole
02:38
often times my clients are one of those
02:40
people who are being looked at
02:42
so when you can get a positive result
02:45
for someone
02:46
or at a minimum do the very best you can
02:49
to
02:50
ensure that the best possible outcome is
02:53
possible for the client
02:55
and that they understand the process
02:57
they’re involved in
02:58
and that they’re made to feel
03:01
comfortable and confident in your
03:02
abilities anytime
03:04
you can achieve those goals it’s it’s
03:07
both positive internally
03:09
and from a external inner interpersonal
03:13
basis the second thing that brings great
03:16
joy to me in the practice of law
03:19
is frankly the intellectual and
03:21
competitive aspect of it
03:22
helping people is first and foremost
03:26
but the practice of law requires the
03:28
review of
03:30
cases statutes legal authority
03:34
that’s been developed over decades if
03:37
not hundreds of years
03:39
it’s complex particularly when applied
03:42
to
03:42
the different factual situations of a
03:44
given case you’re
03:46
involved in and that intellectual
03:48
pursuit is incredibly stimulating
03:50
the related aspect is as someone who has
03:53
grown up playing sports and is still a
03:55
sports fan and
03:56
has competitive juices flowing through
03:58
him even
03:59
even as he gets older and his body
04:01
doesn’t necessarily allow him to
04:02
participate
04:03
on the playing field is the competitive
04:05
aspect it’s
04:07
it’s being able to duel professionally
04:09
collegially
04:10
but dual wits with someone on the other
04:12
side and analyze the law
04:14
ideally and optimally achieve a positive
04:18
outcome for your client
04:19
it’s a great rush not only to help
04:21
someone else but to feel
04:23
that your position and that your efforts
04:25
have been vindicated by a third party
