Medication errors is something that’s becoming recognized more and more as a leading cause of harm to people. And when people hear medication errors, they think oh, the pharmacist misfilled something. But if you think about all the situations in a hospital where different combinations of medications have to be put together, or I’ve even handled cases where because the way these new electronic medical records work, it prevents the staff from giving medication at a certain time when it is necessary because either there is an issue with the software, or an issue how one person entered a dose. These errors are growing astronomically.
And one of the other issues that we are now beginning to see even more and more in the field of medication errors is due to medications shortages. And when people go into hospitals, they aren’t told we may not have enough of the medication that you are going to need during this day, which is leading to additional problems. It is a common and growing problem that is scary for us, and not just in our community but in the country as a whole.
Philadelphia, PA personal injury lawyer Eric H. Weitz talks about the danger of medication errors in the hospital environment.
