New York, NY personal injury attorney Michael Ronemus talks about the Brooklyn Hospital emergency room malpractice case that he’s handling. The case involves a woman who was admitted to a hospital in Brooklyn with severe abdominal pain that had been ongoing for several days. Her daughter, a well-informed individual, brought her to the emergency room. Upon arrival, the hospital staff placed the patient on a gurney in the hallway, where she remained unattended for approximately three hours.
Concerned about her mother’s condition, the daughter eventually approached a medical staff member whom she believed to be a doctor. It turned out to be a physician’s assistant. The assistant performed a brief examination and suggested that the patient might have a hernia, identifying this as the possible cause of her pain. Despite this preliminary assessment, the patient was left in the hallway for an additional six hours before a doctor finally evaluated her.
Once the severity of her condition was recognized, the medical team conducted a CAT scan, which revealed a perforated intestine. Tragically, the woman passed away in the hospital just a few hours later. This is a recent case that has been filed, and settlement discussions have not yet commenced.
