Collaborative law is different from a standard litigated case in that the client is standing out front and the lawyer is standing behind the client. The client is doing the negotiation. The client is making all of the decisions. And maybe not a hundred percent, but the client is making the process decisions also.
So, how fast is the case going? Driven by the client. What information do we need to gather? Driven by the client. It is a client-oriented process. And the only thing that clients need to understand is they really need to get a professional that can help them through this because they’ve never done this before. And if they think that they’re going to know everything when they do their first divorce – well, normally we learn a lot by making mistakes.
Denton, TX Family Law Attorney David S. Bouschor, II goes over the collaborative divorce process.
