Portland, OR family law attorney Matthew Muenzen talks about his experience in juvenile law. After passing the bar in 2007, they began working for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services as an Assistant General Counsel, a role they held for three years before being promoted to Supervising Attorney in Nashville. After three years in that position, they transitioned to the DCS central office, where they served as Director of Community Partnerships and Special Advisor to a Deputy Commissioner in the Office of Child Safety. Over approximately ten years, they focused on child welfare law and policy at the Department of Children’s Services. Following this, they were retained and court-appointed to represent parents and children in dependency cases in Tennessee, operating their own law firm and handling both court-appointed work and other family law cases. Upon moving to Oregon, they joined a law firm with a Public Defense contract, where they provided court-appointed representation for both children and adults. Currently, they primarily focus on family law, as well as retained juvenile and DHS cases.
