I had one that was one of the earliest cases in my career. It’s certainly not a typical case but it was a memorable one and it was an arbitration actually. And the dispute there was two factions of a church that were fighting each other over the funds of the church and the name of the church itself. I represented the pastor of this church and he was very rigid and strict and there was a faction of the church that decided he was too strict and too rigid and they wanted to break off but they didn’t want to just break off, they wanted to break off and take the name of the church with them and all of the church’s money.
And so that was the problem that the pastor had with what they were trying to do. And so the dispute was who was entitled to the name of the church and who was entitled to the church’s money. A challenge that I had in that case, this is going back over 20 years, was my client considered himself to have a direct connection to God.
