In my jurisdiction, there are corporations that compete for multi-million dollar contracts. When awarded these contracts, they assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of foster children. They are court-ordered to find appropriate placements and secure permanent, stable living arrangements for these children.
However, I have handled cases where these corporations failed to properly train their employees and follow appropriate protocols, leading to catastrophic consequences. People have ended up in a permanent vegetative state due to drug overdoses, been found dead in a park without proper medical attention, and in another instance, a foster care corporation ignored signs that a foster parent was grooming a young girl, resulting in her repeated rape.
I feel privileged to have been asked to look behind the curtain of this bureaucracy and identify the many missteps that lead to these tragedies. I work to obtain justice for those affected and hope that my actions ultimately lead to system-wide corrections to prevent future tragedies.
