There’s a big difference between expunging a record and sealing a record, and the criteria for doing so are different as well. Sealing a record oftentimes will not help an individual restore their firearms rights. There are exceptions, particularly with first-offense drug convictions, however, expungement will generally remove that record from consideration when applying for a license. However, our laws governing expungement are – are very narrow and only apply to certain offenses: individuals who committed offenses under the age of 21 or offenses that are no longer crimes.
