Under the federal laws, they don’t provide for breaks like they would breaks during the day. Minnesota does have a work break statute and it has a lunch break statute and of course, both state and federal has leave laws as we’ve looked at and other issues. The most important advice I give any employer along those lines is to be flexible because some situations won’t always be occupied by a 10-minute break for every four hours. Sometimes a person might need 20 minutes and in fact under our law in Minnesota 20 minutes is considered the least amount of time for which a person can still be paid and go on a paid break. If it’s more than that then they’re going to punch out and do other things. But be flexible because there are cases out there where employers haven’t followed meal break regulations and rules and been inflexible and they’ve been punished.
