Well, the biggest tragedy is a lot of times people say, “They’re old. They’ve got dementia. I don’t believe them,” and the neglect goes forward. Sometimes they get punished by the nursing home for complaining, and then that compounds the problem. We had a rape case where a woman was raped by a 28-year-old medication aide who drugged her, and rather than identifying the problem, the organization threw the patient under the bus and tried to get her committed in a psychiatric institution so no one would believe her.
