Nursing home abuse and neglect a lot of times are used interchangeably. Effectively, abuse is any negligent, any act or omission that’s negligent that causes harm to a patient or resident. And neglect is essentially the failure to provide services to meet the needs of the patient or the resident that also causes harm. Ultimately, you know the legal definitions are what really distinguish the two but in every case that involves nursing home abuse and neglect we’re really talking about harm usually by a healthcare provider or by another person to someone vulnerable who is unable to protect themselves from that harm.
