Minnesota’s the land of 10,000 lakes and many of us have boats. It is a crime in Minnesota to operate a boat with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more or to operate the boat while under the influence of alcohol; in other words, you don’t possess your usual skill, intellect, or physical control. If you get a BWI, you generally don’t lose your driver’s license for the first time. However, if you’re over a .16 that can change things dramatically. You are also opening yourself up to more serious crimes if someone is involved in an accident and people are injured.
So there are a great variety of circumstances. You may lose your license. You generally don’t on your first time. However, you don’t want to get a BWI and have this on your driving record, and that happens in every case. It’ll be on your driving record even though you don’t lose your driver’s license. You shouldn’t think it won’t affect you just because you don’t lose your license. It’s there. Prospective employers look at it. Admissions advisors look at it. It could affect you for the rest of your life.
