You can’t be divorced any sooner than 60 days from the date a person is served with the petition for divorce. It’s called dissolution of marriage in Arizona but the process usually takes much longer, it can take up to a year and sometimes even longer it just depends on the circumstance. Any divorce that’s within nine months or less has gone well as far as timing. Six months is great. Sometimes it’s very amicable and the parents already know what they’re going to do, how they’re going to divide their assets, what they’re going to do with regard to the kids and so that can be done pretty quickly. That can be done in three to four months actually and if it’s amicable it goes really smoothly, it helps them out. It helps them move forward. It’s good for them. But if not, if it becomes real litigious you have to get in front of a judge and judges time is valuable and precious to them. It takes time to get in front of a judge to fight over some issues even temporarily until you get to the final resolution. And it can take up to a year.
