so once you file for divorce there’s a
mandatory waiting period of six months
so I would say definitely the six months
that’s a cooling off period to determine
if you can maybe reconcile or not but
realistically the process you go to to
disclose assets to Value assets award
assets between the two of you to work
out some kind of a solution by
stipulation or to put your case up for
trial you’re looking
at probably a year minimum to get all of
those things fine tuned and some
divorces can go much longer than that
depending on how complicated um the
assets are if there’s custody issues
involved it just depends

Los Angeles, CA family law attorney Robyn Santucci talks about how long it takes to get a divorce. She remarks that once a divorce is filed, there is a mandatory six-month waiting period. This period is often referred to as a “cooling-off” phase, giving spouses the opportunity to consider whether reconciliation is possible. In practice, however, the full divorce process typically extends beyond that timeframe. The steps of disclosing assets, valuing them, dividing property, and either reaching a stipulated agreement or preparing for trial generally take at least a year. Cases can last even longer when complex assets are involved or when custody disputes arise, as the timeline ultimately depends on the specific issues in each matter.
