Well, in Texas conservatorship is a fancy word for custody. So most of the time because the family code prefers parents to be appointed joint managing conservators most of the time that’s what the court will do or if we’re settling the case that’s most of the situations where parents will agree to be joint managing conservators. I tell people that does not mean equal time with the children because that’s usually their first question. Even with the joint managing conservatorship, one parent or one party is appointed the primary where they get the right to designate the primary residence for the child. The other party usually then will have standard possession and will be paying guidelines child support.
Dallas, TX family law attorney, Paula Lock Smyth explains the concept Child Custody and Conservatorship and what you should know about it.
