You can modify custody and parenting time without going to court. It requires that the parties make agreements about what those modifications are gonna be. Sometimes those modifications are simply the product of sitting around a table together and talking about what the problem has been and where we want to go so that we can meet the needs of everybody involved. Some time we do it through mediation. But whatever agreement is reached is then incorporated into a document called a Stipulation and Order, so that if there’s a change again in the future, the court will look back to that document to know what the agreement of the parties was.
