what I’ll call particularly tragic they

stick with you and one that I remember

in particular we had quite a few years

ago it resulted from a little girl in

Philadelphia and she was playing outside

in the summer with a lot of her friends

and they were attempting to put one of

those sprinkler caps onto the fire

hydrant and in Philadelphia and a lot of

other cities you can actually take the

cover off of a fire hydrant and put

these sprinkler caps on well she and

some of the adults around her attempted

to do that but after the cap went on it

flew off the water sent her gushing into

the street in front of another car the

injuries were catastrophic and she did

survive for probably about a year year

and a half and ultimately it was her

demise but the case was fascinating

because everyone knows well it involves

the car that hit her but it also

involved the city of Philadelphia the

manufacturer of the sprinkler and a wide

range of other things including learning

more than I ever thought I would about

how water systems and fire hydrants work

but in the end the picture I remember

and her first name was Crystal was her

in her bed and just all of the heroic

things that everyone did for her but

ultimately they weren’t enough and we

were able to get a very good recovery at

the time it was my former firm it was

the largest recovery we’d ever had for

anyone foreign
