I’ve seen all kinds of different kinds of brain injuries from penetrating skull injuries, where there is a hematoma occurring on the brain. And even when that is absorbed over time, there is still hemosiderin that results as a residue on the brain, which is primarily iron. And our brains function on the electrical circuitry and that iron can interfere with that circuitry and you need a sophisticated physician and lawyer to be able to communicate how it is that the elimination of that blood still remains a permanent injury. I see a lot of what we call contre core, what the medical community calls a contrecoup injury, where there is just a sloshing of the brain, as it were, within that skull cavity.
And I’m happy to see that our popular culture is now catching up a little bit in terms of what’s happening to football players, what’s happening to hockey players, what’s happening to our returning veterans. Just a concussive event of noise and blast can cause a brain injury. And now we have the tools to document it.
