my particular area
experience in the area of adoption law
is a little different than many what i
generally do is get called in in
situations where there are contested
adoptions
an adoption agency will call me in if
there are
competing requests for adoption of a
child
i also represent private clients in
those areas but essentially these are
cases and i perceive a lot of them as
good cases because i
have been through and done a lot of work
in juvenile court
and i’ve seen the cases where the
children don’t have anybody and are not
wanted these are cases that are a bit
different they’re tough cases
and they’re especially tough because
there’s only one resolution with the
court and it’s one of the individuals
one either a parent foster parent
relative
they’re going to
be successful
in their contest for adoption but it’s
only going to be one so they’re
difficult and heartbreaking cases
yet in comparison to some of the other
cases i deal with
there are a lot of positives as well

St. Paul, MN family law attorney John Jerabek talks about his experience in handling adoptions. His experience in adoption law stands apart from many others. He shares that he is often called into situations involving contested adoptions, where an adoption agency seeks his help in cases with competing requests for the adoption of a child. He also represents private clients in such matters.

These cases, he believes, are meaningful ones. Having spent significant time working in juvenile court, he has seen the heartbreaking situations where children have no one and are unwanted. By contrast, contested adoptions, though difficult, often involve children who are deeply wanted by multiple parties.

Still, he acknowledges that these are tough cases. The court can only resolve them one way, granting adoption to one party—whether a parent, foster parent, or relative—while others are left disappointed. The process is both difficult and heartbreaking. Yet compared to many other cases he handles, these matters carry positives as well, since at their heart they reflect a fight to give a child a permanent and loving home.
