Los Angeles, CA personal injury lawyer Carly Sanchez discusses how her firm started representing children in the foster care system. She explains that I have been a part of Booth Law since 2010. I started my journey at the firm as a law clerk right after completing my undergraduate studies. During my time as a law clerk, I took a new client call from a concerned mother whose son had been sexually abused while in foster care. This was a field we had not ventured into before, but we decided to take on the case and learn how to handle such complex cases. We realized that biological parents of children in foster care usually do not have the legal right to sue on their behalf. Hence, we had to determine who could bring a lawsuit on behalf of the child. We eventually managed to get a guardian ad litem appointed, who could represent the child in the lawsuit. From there, we started to receive more cases involving dependent minors who had been physically or sexually abused. It was a challenging and confusing process, but we managed to succeed in our first few cases, gaining a good reputation in the community. Today, Booth Law is one of the few firms in Southern California that routinely handles such cases.
