Kansas City, MO personal injury attorneys Geordie McGonagle and Jarrett Johnson talk about what types of cases their firm handles and what makes them different than other law firms. The firm is dedicated to helping everyday people who have experienced some of the most catastrophic events imaginable. While they occasionally handle cases involving minor car accidents, their primary focus is assisting people during the darkest times of their lives—those who have lost children, spouses, body parts, or have been permanently harmed due to the negligence of others. These cases vary in complexity, and the firm’s mission is to treat clients as individuals, not just cases, and to help them find a path forward despite their tragic circumstances.
As trial lawyers, the firm believes that if they aren’t improving their clients’ lives in some way, they aren’t fulfilling their purpose. While they can’t undo the past or erase the pain, they strive to put clients in a better position moving forward.
No case is too complex for the firm. They have represented victims of abuse in religious boarding schools, families who have lost children due to the negligence of foster care companies, and individuals harmed by defective products or careless healthcare practices. The firm’s caseload also includes cases involving dangerous products and incidents where security guards, improperly trained, have abused their authority. The firm is not limited to any one type of case but takes on any challenge. With ample resources to prosecute and fund cases, the firm is staffed by experienced trial lawyers who know how to fight in the courtroom, ensuring that clients’ claims are maximized.
The firm’s approach is shaped by its founders’ extensive experience. Both the founder and his partner, Jarrett, began their careers as public defenders, where they tried numerous cases. The founder recalls one month when he handled three jury trials, a significant accomplishment. Jarrett joined a few years later. After spending time in an insurance defense firm, the founder realized it wasn’t the right fit for him. He and an old law school friend, who had also worked in public interest law, decided to open their own practice, focused on representing working people like their own parents.
The firm continued to thrive, and in 2014, Dave, the founder’s original partner, retired. However, the founder remained in practice, driven by his passion for the work. He later reconnected with Jarrett while teaching trial advocacy at law school. Given their shared experience trying many lawsuits, the founder knew Jarrett had the same commitment to representing “the little guy.” The partnership was a natural fit, and together, they have continued to build a firm dedicated to fighting for justice for those who need it most.
